Apple releases new iMacs

Apple has released a brand new lineup of iMacs with improvements in processors speed, graphics and design.

The new configurations, now powered by the Intel Penryn chips and a 1066Mhz bus architecure range from 2.4 to 3.06Ghz and keep the same form factors of 20 inch and 24 inch. All the lineup has 6MB of L2 cache shared between the two cores.

The new, higher-end 24 inch model now runs at 3.06Ghz and now benefits from NVIDIA's 8800GS graphics with 512MB of VRAM. The same card is optional to the 2.8GHz 24 inch model while the 20 inch models are powered, respectively by 2.4Ghz and 2.66Ghz processors and ATI Radeon 2600XT graphic cards with 128MB and 256MB of VRAM.

Hard drive storage can now be configured up to 1Tbyte on the 24 inch models and RAM can reach 4GB across the lineup.

Of course, all the iMacs come with a 8x double-layer SuperDrive, Wifi 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 included as well as Leopard and iLife.

Apple also highlight the fact that its latest lineup in greener than the previous models with almost no brominated flame retardants on the circuit board, almost all internal cables not using PVC. The iMac lineup of is of course Energy Star compilant and has the silver ratig from the EPEAT organization.
