iPhone's true battery-life to surprise us - source

Since Apple announced the iPhone in January, there has been a lot of buzz around the possible issues that the V1.0 of the product - due in June - could suffer. The biggest concern being its battery life as some reports claimed it could fall short in some cases. Source we can trust but we can't name now says: "these reports are bullshit!"

Our tipster, who had the chance to play with the device for a longer time than just a few minutes, pointed out that recent concerns about the iPhone's battery-life are unfounded and told MacScoop that the device's real-world battery-life will actually surprise us.

Apple provides official information about the iPhone's battery life in the product's specifications page available on its web site:

- Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing
- Up to 16 hours Audio playback

However, recent reports indicated that the true battery life of the phone could be more like close to 40 minutes when it comes to surfing on the Internet using wireless connectivity capabilities.

After having discussed this with our source, we believe the iPhone's true battery life could equal if not slightly exceed the information mentioned on the device's specifications page.

Overall, our source found the iPhone awesome but he mentioned, as a sole negative point, that the material used on the device's case makes it feel even more slippery than the iPod and will probably require the purchase of a protective skin or case so as to avoid unintentionally dropping it.

These latest details are pretty reassuring for Apple's highly anticipated mobile phone which is key to the success of the company''s business diversification strategy initiated in 2001 with the release of the first iPod.

Good news! I was ready to

Good news! I was ready to buy it despite the battery-life concerns, now I just can't wait!

I'm not really surprised to

I'm not really surprised to read that John C. Dvorak claims are "bullshit".

yeah, neither I am, and the

yeah, neither I am, and the most funny about this is that Alexandros Roussos doesn't even bother citing Dvorak or linking to his article. As if he thought that he does not even deserve being mentioned or linked here.

I don't think Dvorak

I don't think Dvorak deserves to be mentioned on any site. I can't understand why sites like Slashdot still mention his articles.

The iPod was perfect from

The iPod was perfect from the first version so I guess Apple is trying to offer the same level of quality to the first iPhone model.

It's too important for them. Any major glitch could cost them billions.

The first iPod wasn't

The first iPod wasn't perfect, it had... guess what? battery-life issues :)

OMG, I already dropped my

OMG, I already dropped my iPod several times, if the iPhone is really as slippery as described above, maybe it's not made for me.

BUT I WANT IT!

I'm not surprised at all and

I'm not surprised at all and completely believe it. Maybe 40 min is extreme and I would believe 40 min if connected through WiFi and not celluar internet. Though it seems a bit quick....especially for a weaker processor in the phone.

The reason why I believe it is because I have a Samsung smartphone (very powerful processor, only the Dell pocket pc's are faster I believe, probably not by now, but when I got it)... and that battery doesn't last the entire day while at work. Fortunately batteries are really cheap...but I hate carrying around a spare. The point is though with any phone -- do not be away from a spare battery or an outlet for more than 6-8 hours and don't use your phone for hours on end =)

I can get through an 8, 9 hr day with a few phone calls and web browsing...but if I browsed the internet for over an hour (arguably so, a lot of time) then my phone won't last the entire day and I completely expect that to hold true for the iPhone as well.

Why? BIG BRIGHT SCREENS.

Stronger batteries? Yea maybe and cancer too.

This is not a screen problem

This is not a screen problem people.

I bought an iPhone and then jumped over the pond to the UK. The battery over there was well up to the specs and I had no issues. It was only coming back to the US that I found the phone to be lacking in longevity.

Given my activities have not changed, the draining culprit is a roaming one. If the signal is constantly being re-evaluated then the power on the device will suffer.

I would push this back to the Dev Team and have them work this out with AT&T.

Yes, 1400mAh for the GSM and

Yes, 1400mAh for the GSM and the big screen is not a lot of juice. Been using couple of PDAs with phones and only some of them could stay on longer that 1 day. Normally I needed to recharge them every night.

Buying extended battery was always a really worthy step to make usage of device longer and I always want for Mugen Power brand - they do extended batteries for almost 30 years now (started with cameras) and now they have a 1550mAh extended battery for iPhone!

an extra 150mAh does not sound to be a big deal, but it's an extra 10%! and sometimes you just need couple of minutes to get a number or to download this one email. Check it out, these guys ship it free worldwide and I have bought several batteries from them in the past and always was impressed with the quality and improved lifetime.
